Stepping Back - how to actually do it

I'm back from 5 days on a retreat The Sharpham Trust.

Away from people, tech, the news, all contact with the outside world. I came back feeling CLEARER about what to do next.

Think about this: physically when we step back from something that’s right in our face, we are able to see more of it. We get the big picture. From here we do our best thinking. We step back to move forward in the right direction.

I encourage hospitality leaders I work with to step back with these habits:

✅ pause in the middle of service and observe for 3 mins

✅ create space in your morning to start the day intentionally before you dive into work

✅ delegate more

✅ schedule at least one a hour a week thinking time

✅ use the commute home to review your day

✅ run briefings, meetings and do work outside of the restaurant

✅ step back fully from work on holidays and time off

The stepping back perspective allows them to be more

💥 strategic - less bogged down in detail

💥 innovative - you can see more options when you see the bigger picture

💥 impactful - better perspective = better thinking = better results

How much are you stepping back? What would it give you? Where will you start? Choose a habit...
