Slow down to speed up

Why the hurry? I am a hyper-achiever by nature. I love to get things done. I built my early reputation on getting sh*t done at work. It took me years to learn to slow down. When I did my work, my team's work and everyone's happiness improved.

Some costs of moving too quickly - any of these familiar?

Poor decision making: when you are always rushing from A to B there is no time to think properly.

Lack of creative thinking: if you have your head down all day, where will you find the space for new ideas and fresh perspectives?

Feelings of stress, burnout and chaos: when rushed, it feels like everything must get done at the same time. Because this is not humanly possible stress follows.

Poor productivity: here is the paradox. This rabbit in the headlights, headless chicken state leads to mistakes, lack of strategy, communication breakdowns. Work suffers.

Things to think about:

? How does focussing on one thing versus multitasking affect you and your work?
? How is your emotional state when you are working at speed?
? What's the pace of your business, your team and your own natural pace? How are they similar or different?
? What is the pace in which you actually want to work and feel most productive and energised?
