How to have a good day

I'm a big believer in a morning routine. But just as important I've realised is how we finish the day. Especially the end of the work day. It's easy to feel frazzled after a day of work. Ending your day on an intentional good note will ensure that you look back on it with a sense of fulfilment, making it easier to let go of work and truly relax in your precious time off.

Here's some ideas:

Name 3 things you've achieved - this creates a sense of accomplishment. Think about the small wins. Spend as much time on your DONE as your TO-DO list. If you work in restaurants a team debrief focussing on positive feedback is a brilliant way to scale this up for your whole team.

Connect - say a proper goodbye to everyone rather than just silently drift off into the night. This is triply important if you are a boss/manager.

Wind down buffer - don't start big pieces of work, answer calls or more complex emails in the last hour of work. Use this time to tidy up, organise, plan tomorrow instead.

End on high - send someone a message to thank them for something brilliant they've done, share some positive feedback, give someone a compliment.

Create a shutdown ritual - switch off the e-mail alerts, put some mood boosting music on as you leave the building, don't work on the way home - use your journey to do something for yourself such a reading a book or listening to something that makes you forget work.

And leave the day behind....

What helps you end the day well? What could you do to leave work behind?
